Introduction to Family Therapy

What is Family Therapy

Family therapy is a systemic approach that addresses the relationships and dynamics within a family unit. It recognizes that family interactions deeply influence individual and family well-being. Our family therapists work with all family members to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions, understand each other’s views, and work together to make positive changes in their relationships and lives.

Signs You May Need Family Therapy
  • Ongoing Unresolved Conflict within the Family: If your family finds it difficult to resolve conflicts independently and tensions persist, family therapy can provide a neutral space for open communication and conflict resolution.
  • Communication Issues among Family Members: Difficulty expressing needs, misunderstandings, or frequent arguments can indicate a breakdown in family communication. Family therapy can improve communication skills and help family members feel heard and understood.
  • Major Life Transitions: Significant life events such as divorce or relocation can disrupt the family system. Family therapy supports adjusting to these changes and building resilience as a family unit.
Steps Involved in Family Therapy
  • Assessment and Goal Setting: We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand your family’s unique dynamics, challenges, and goals.
  • Customized Therapy Plans: Based on the assessment, we create a personalized treatment plan that may include various therapeutic approaches such as systemic family therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
  • Ongoing Support: We provide continuous support and adjust your treatment plan as needed to ensure the best outcomes for your family.
  • Holistic Approach: Our therapy integrates various aspects of well-being, including emotional, mental, and relational health.

* Note that the steps are not always linear.
